Kastelruth, Italy
June 6-7
June 6th – We arrived around 12pm and dropped off our bags at the hotel. Our hotel was the Hotel Cavallino D’Oro, right in the center of town. Our window overlooked the water fountain and clock tower. Alpe di Siusis is Europe’s largest high-altitude alpine meadow, surrounded by Italy’s Dolomites. Once my brother, dad, and I were ready, we headed up to the Alpe di Siusis to hike around the Panorama trail before the main gondola closed at 6pm.
June 7th – My family and I hiked the Witches trail, which is the opposite side of the mountain than the Panorama trail. The Panorama trail normally requires a ski lift (which my dad, brother, and I skipped and walked up an even, grave path). The Witches trail requires another gondola after the first to reach the start of the trail. The good part of hiking the Witches Trail is that it ends at the first gondola, so we didn’t have to take the second gondola back down. The Witches Trial is about 4 miles long. Once we were at the trail's peak, we were able to see Kastelruth from our vantage point high on the mountain. June 8th – Our bus drove us to Fussen, Germany.
