Fussen, Germany
June 8

June 8th – We drove to Fussen, Germany on the bus. Our hotel was called Altstadthotel Zum Hechten. On the drive to Germany, we were planning on going to the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest point by gondola. Unfortunately, there is a live camera which revealed that it was too foggy to see any of the magnificent view. Instead, Laurel, our tour manager, suggested we see a suspension bridge instead. I was disappointed not to see the Zugspitze but it was nice to take a short walk after we had lunch at a local restaurant. We went to the same suspension bridge in 2024 since the Zugspitze was also too foggy to see the view.

June 9 – My family and I went to take a tour of Hohenscwangau castle. There is a walking path to the castle from our hotel that is about 3 miles long. However, if you are biking or walking it, allow enough time to make your tour. In 2024, my brother, dad, and I biked from our hotel to Neuschwanstein Castle. I would recommend taking the bus since we did have to wake up early to bike in 2024. For this trip in 2025, my family and I took the bus. Neuschwanstein Castle is famous for being built by Ludwick II, however he lived most of his growing up years in Hohenschwangau. On our 2024 trip, my family and I took a tour of Neuschwanstein Castle. Some people we knew did both tours on the same day, which is doable as long as you have tickets for both. We did take the bus up to Mary’s Bridge, which is where you can get an amazing picture of Neuschwanstein Castle. That afternoon, my mom, sister, and I went to get coffee and cake at a local cafe in Fussen. My dad and brother biked 20 miles around the lake. Laurel told us about this amazing spaghetti shaped ice cream, which we got after dinner.
