MyWay Alpine Europe in 12 Days

Join me at Izzy's Adventures, where we dive into personal travel stories, unique tips, and cultural insights that will make your next journey unforgettable.

I will detail my adventures on Rick Steve's My Way Alpine Europe in 12 Days from June 4, 2025 - June 15, 2025.

This is my second time being able to tour the European Alps with my family with Rick Steves. We began with Austria, and then went to Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and finally France.

While the official dates of the trip were June 4 - June 15, my family and I arrived in Salzburg, Austria on June 1. We stayed in Chamonix, France until June 19.

Travel Tips

Tip #1 Pack what you can carry

For most of the hotels, we had to walk a few minutes from where the bus was parked. I would recommend taking a backpack and carry-on suitcase. If you buy a lot of souvenirs, buy a checked back for the trip home.

Tip #2 Have change ready for rest stops

Most of the restrooms we stopped at required $.50-$1 euros. Before you enter the restroom, you have to input the exact amount of money into the turnstile machine to enter. To get euros, I went to an ATM in Salzburg and used my debit card to withdraw cash and change.

Tip #3 Wear good hiking shoes

Besides my passport, the most important item I brought were my running shoes. Even on days I wasn't hiking, I was walking for hours around the cites we visited. While I was tired, my feet felt good since I wore comfortable shoes. I also used Body Glide to help prevent blisters. Hiking shoes would also work just as well since there are many chances to go on a good hike, especially in Italy.

Tip #4 Bring a jacket/sweater and sunscreen

During one of hikes, it was windy so I wore the jacket that I had brought. That day was also cloudy so I thought I did not need sunscreen. I was very wrong. My face got so burnt due to the lack of sunscreen. The rest of my body was covered by my clothing, so only my face and neck got really burnt. My sister and I had to go to the local pharmacy to get Aloe for our burns. Even if it is cloudy, please wear sunscreen. Don't make the same mistake I did.
