Salzburg, Austria

June 1-3

My family and I arrived in Austria on June 1, but our first flight was on May 31. Due to the time change, we didn’t arrive until the afternoon of June 1. Since we arrived a few days before the official start of the tour, my family and I stayed in Hotel Hofwirt in Salzburg. The official date of the tour was June 4th. My family did have to switch hotels and walk about a mile (with all of our luggage) to the Radisson Blu Altstadt Hotel on June 4. After dropping off our bags at the hotel on June 1, my family and I walked around Salzburg since we didn't have any plans. My brother, dad, and I ate ice cream for dinner.

On June 2, my family and I ate an early breakfast at Hotel Hofwirt. Several months before our trip, my mom bought us tickets for the Original Sound of Music Tour. This bus tour lasted four hours and went to numerous locations where the movie was filmed. That night, we ate at an amazing authentic German restaurant, Die Weisse. We had eaten there in 2024, a recommendation by our cab driver. In 2024, my family and I went on our first MyWay Alpine Adventure. It happened to work out that Laurel James, our tour guide from 2024, was our tour guide again in 2025. She was amazing and extremely helpful with any questions we had about the trip.

June 3, my brother, dad, and I visited a salt mine titled the Hallstatt Salt Mine. We got there by bus, which took about an hour. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in the history of Salzburg. After a tour of the mine, my brother bought a wooden ball for 1 euro. Outside, there were several displays of how people lived through the centuries. In addition, there were wooden obstacle courses where kids and grown-ups alike could move the ball through each. That afternoon we went back to the main city of Salzburg and had dinner at a local burger restaurant.

June 4-5

On June 4th, we switched hotels to the Radisson Blu Altstadt Hotel, right in the middle of downtown historic Salzburg. That night we met our tour guide and the rest of the group in the hotel lobby. That morning, before we switched hotels, my brother and I rented bikes and rode along the river, which was really pretty. For dinner, we ate at Pasta e Vino, a tiny pasta restaurant in Salzburg. The food was definitely delicious and worth every bite.

June 5 we visited the picturesque town of Hallstatt, fabled to be the town Frozen, one of Disney's princess movie, was based on. We had to take two trains but were able to take a nice walk around the town our first train stopped at. Once the second bus dropped us off, we took a boat across the lake to get to Hallstatt. The whole area looks like the Norwegian fjord from the movie Frozen. However, beware of the swans, they will bite and hiss for food. June 6th was a travel day to Kastelruth, Italy. While Kastelruth is the German name, Castelrotto is the Italian name for the same town.
